If you have had trouble downloading the latest podcast and haven’t had troubles in the past, this is the reason. Simply click the link or copy and paste it into your browser address bar. A pop-up box will ask which program you’d like to use to open the file, and should show iTunes by defualt. Confirm iTunes and you will be taken to the podcast tab in iTunes where you can click subscribe again and everything will be back to the way it was for you.

Why the change? Unfortunately, the only way to change a podcast series’ iTunes feed is to change the RSS feed that it reads, but up until now we’ve been using pod-O-matic, and since the feed is theirs, we couldn’t just redirect the traffic.

Because the podcast has been growing so quickly we’ve been incurring more and more expense to use pod-O-matic, as they charge based on bandwidth utilized. We’re amongst the most popular podcasts on the entire pod-O-matic platform, so we’d gotten to a point where the only remaining upgrade we could do was to become one of their “Pro Broadcasters” and pay a heavy monthly price for it. I did not want to inhibit the continued growth of the series and the site, but without enough donations to offset all of the costs, I decided to change how the podcast is delivered. We may still use pod-O-matic on a limited basis, since it does have benefits, but for economical reasons I’ve decided to publish the feed from directly within CircuitCadence.com.

This is all just me figuring it out as I go so THANK YOU so much for your patience!

Some other things that I’ll explain while I’m at it, that you may have been wondering about recently…

With each post you’ll now see several options available for how you personally would prefer to enjoy the set. This is a description of what each of the options is and how to use it, so you can pick the easiest one for you:

EMBEDDED PLAYER:
The embedded player is similar to the one from podOmatic we’d been using, where you can listen to the set anywhere there is a flash enabled web browser and internet connection. You might want to preview a set before deciding whether or not you like it enough to download it and keep or you may just be at work and want to listen to music without storing any files on company hardware.

SUBSCRIBE THROUGH ITUNES:
This is what was explained above, it takes a RSS feed and converts it into a format that iTunes will automatically download and sync with your iPod, based on the settings you establish.

SUBSCRIBE THROUGH RSS:
This is a feed that can be read by many programs and similar to iTunes, delivers new episodes to you automatically, as they become available. Popular readers are Google Reader, Feedburner, and others. I personally use Socialite, but the reader is less important than the information within the feed. Each entry includes the playlist, publish info, and any attached album art, and the podcast file itself, of course.

DOWNLOAD MP3 or M4A DIRECT:
Don’t like things that download on their own? Or maybe you only care for a specific style/energy of music that is sporadic? Many prefer to download the file themselves, so they can control where it is downloaded to, and whether it is auto-deleted or not. This link is a direct link to the file, so depending on your browser you will either:
****Click the link, a popup window should display and ask you whether to “open using (application of your choice)” or to download the file.
[Either option will download the file, but the first option places the file into your temporary folder and will at some point get deleted when you clean your system. The first option will begin playing it upon completion and the second will simply save the file for your further action later. The second choice also should ask where to save the file, if it does not, then it will be in your default download folder.]

PLAY FROM IPHONE, ANDROID OR SMART PHONE:
This is a bit redundant, because it is likely that it is the same link as the previous one, however since it performs a different function I’ve chosen to specify that difference in this way. Essentially this will stream the file like the flash player up above, but in a way that devices like the iPhone can use, which are not flash compatible. Android phones can either download or stream this file, whichever is established in your settings and based upon what types of apps you have installed.

INDIVIDUAL TRACKS: .RAR ARCHIVE:
This is only recommended for users that are proficient in computers and whom retain the necessary skills and software. Usually a link to mediafire is here, it will download a large compressed archive that DJs and promoters often use as promotional items, as appropriate.

Hopefully this helps those of you who ran into troubles or were confused or frustrated recently. I’ll publish this as a reference to the site, in case you need to revisit any of it in the future.
